Public Outreach

As I was still figuring out how to deal with anxiety, I took a class called "Biomedical Advances And Society". In this class, we discussed the society's understanding of biomedical technologies and how this affected public policy creation and decisions. The task for our final project was to create a public education campaign to help people learn and use new information about the most important topics of our time.

There is a large number of people that live with mental health issues, and it is currently more prominent in the social consciousness than ever. However, available helpful resources are still largely unknown. In person therapy and counseling is often seen as the only treatment option, but it can be difficult to participate in whether because of the financial burden, timing reasons, or fear of the stigma surrounding therapy. My public outreach project was focused on making known the multitude of free self-help options available via smart phone applications, and was specifically aimed at young adults, a population with large occurrences of mental health issues and increased reasons for not participating in traditional therapy.
